it was a blast to be a part of #bestdayever with barrett + asia in solvang, california! barrett and i met going to guitar parties circa ‘09 in san luis obispo and have collaborated on a lot of projects since, his wedding day being the most awesome one. him and asia freshened up at the peterson village inn then we went down to coquelicot vineyard for the ceremony and up to the barn for their reception. we had plenty of amazing locations to photograph at around the vineyard and having a tractor at our dispense was money! here are the photographs of their day, congrats bear + asia!!!

had such a blast with dan + lisa in mount crawford, south australia. they put so much work in to their wedding from location to decoration and it made the day come out absolutely beautiful. it pretty much rained steadily throughout the day but thanks to brollies and occasional breaks we got some awesome shots in. congrats dan + lisa, so stoked i got to be a part of your wedding day!

had an awesome time at the 1900’s carnival wedding shane + jaime threw. they had plenty of family and friends in the audience and featured live musical performances throughout the night complete with gramophone style tunes to keep everyone on their feet. congrats shane + jaime!

my good buddy james got engaged to his longtime girlfriend lettie and i got the chance to capture how clearly stoked they are on each other! really happy for these two and had a blast photographing them in downtown denver, at the littleton golf course, and a family ranch in the littleton suburbs. many good times ahead with them, can’t wait to be their photographer for 90% of the wedding and friend who likes to party for the last bit!

here is the series i did for fabrication. 13 designers were given a bag of recycled goods to design with and the results are pretty rad. all the proceeds from the show went towards canteen, the Australian organization for young people living with cancer. i fully support everything about this show, thanks to everyone who got involved and big ups to Katherine for organizing the shoot!

i shot this set of chase mcbride circa ‘09 in san luis obispo, california a few days before i moved to china. i don’t think either of us did much with these - chase was putting together a full band around this time so i think he went a different direction including the other members. i figured it would be fun to share them since no one has really seen most of these, so enjoy and check out the smooth stylings of chase mcbride!

This is the first of a three part series chronicling the day in October I spent with Yu Sheng (余声) of Anhui Province, winner of the Miss China Pageant. For the 59th Miss World Pageant held in Johannesburg, South Africa Yu had learn to do her own hair and make-up as no assistants were allowed in the final pageant. She spent the day before the competition in Panyu, China fitting dresses and taking time to learn different ways to do her hair and apply make-up.

Here is an overview of the people that were involved during the day.

陈法拉 is the public relations manager of the Miss China organization and served as Yu’s personal assistant for the day.

Hilbert Ng is the owner and chief hairdresser of Hit Salon

Dany Tabet is the main designer of Aisha Collection and oversees Dany Tabet Haute Couture.

We all met up in the design offices at Aisha Collection studio in Panyu, China. Dany had designed a series of dresses for the competition and needed Yu to fit them prior to completion. Hilbert observed and came up with various hair styles on the spot to fit the dresses that he would later teach to Yu at Hit Salon.

After things wrapped up at the design office, we went to the Aisha showroom so Yu could fit the dresses and Hilbert could continue to plan out styles to match.

had a great family portrait session with the kurtz family at kendrick lake park in lakewood, colorado. the trees laid down some autumnal backdrops and we had a blast! here are some of my favorite photographs from our shoot!

had a lot of fun photographing ben kweller at the gov in adelaide, south australia. ben was way cool with letting me hang backstage and shoot some prep shots as well as a few portraits, so massive thanks to ben + renee @ chugg entertainment for letting me have some fun.

i love this band. the first time i heard their debut album i didn’t rate it, and it wasn’t until late 2009 when i was on my way to new york i gave it a second try and ended up looping the album almost the entire trip. i had seen the band play once at an outdoor show in a wal-mart parking lot around central california and remembered they put on a solid live set, and after watching their live DVD a month ago i knew they would be a blast to photograph.

i never got in to this band, so i figured i would give them one more chance seeing as this show was advertised as their last tour ever. my only past with them was circa ‘05 in the cal poly dorms when my friend casey showed me their music video for my darkest hour. this is to date the best music video i have seen in my life, and it is a solid song. the clip is my go to video when everyone shows off their coolest finds on youtube.

regardless if i can’t get in to the rest of their tracks, they put on a great live show. way more energy than most bands that have been around as long as they have - it is obvious they are still having fun.

i was pretty stoked to see capulet. they were one of the first bands i was told to check out when i moved to adelaide, and they are a solid group.

i got lucky and caught their set tonight when i went to shoot scary kids scaring kids on their farewell tour.

these are the shots of heroes for hire, the opening band for boys like girls at fowlers. i was gonna put these off for a few weeks until i got an e-mail from brad of heroes asking if i had any photos of his band from the show. wrapped ‘em  up.

it has been a long time since i shot a stadium rock band. the only thing i really remembered was that you usually just get to shoot for the first three songs. i forgot they don’t allow flash. i casually overheard one of the stage hands mentioning it to another photographer in the pit so unscrewed my flash head and rocked it in my pocket while i was shooting.

i ended up doing a lot of manual adjustments during the show, but given the available light i am stoked on this set. i also staked out a good spot in the photo pit so had a nice angle advantage for the opening.

this was a nice mellow show to shoot. i got the chance to hang out backstage with c.w. and the backing band so i let my wedding photography skills kick in and documented what they were up to before the show. be sure to check out the band and if you like their jams go catch a set next time they tour.

this is one of the first shows i have photographed in about a year and a half. china obviously didn’t have a booming underground scene and i just hadn’t felt the need to shoot a show thus far in australia. when i saw graf orlock would be playing the final show of their australia tour in a secret spot in adelaide, i knew it was time.

back in 2004 when i moved to orange county, california i was taken by a friend to see graf orlock play at koo’s in long beach. i brought a camera to that show and it was the photos of the sheer intensity that is graf orlock that got me future bookings by bands to shoot their sets, which ultimately lead to my photography career.

gorlock co-headlined this tour with californians dangers and australian bands coerce and robotosaurus. i didn’t shoot coerce as i like to not photograph for at least one full set during a show, and had never heard of coerce so wanted to enjoy the experience of hearing their music first in live form. for photos of coerce, check out erik “e” watson’s photography of the entire show.
